What Face Paints can I buy at a $2 shop?

Paul Holmes

We have all thought about it. Saw the prices of face and body paints at craft shops or $2 shops, and thought maybe I could save myself some money. I'm here to tell you do not ever buy face paints from $2 shops, craft stores, cheap overseas suppliers or anywhere else that isn't a reputable face paint supplier! It's not worth it. See our blog on the dangers of cheap face paints if you need more convincing.  But $2 shops can be a haven for other items. Here is some items you can absolutely find.    Mirrors Sometimes you can find great A4 size mirrors at cheap shops. Grab a few! Then kids can look at themselves while you keep painting the next in line! Cleaning supplies You can get cleaning supplies to clean up after yourself after painting, as well as baby wipes and make up remover. We recommend using a professional brush cleaner, but if you dont have one, then baby shampoo is a decent alternative. Always look for one that has no scents or allergens.  Lip balms Dont ever buy face paint as it will be terrible, but you can find some exciting gems in the make up section. Using a sticky lip balm like paw paw gel, or a clear lip gloss is great for applying glitter or bling. It's sticky enough to hold the gems, and we know it's safe for cosmetic use. Plus most lip glosses will remove with water.  Disposable brush/sponge options If you are in a strict hygiene venue, you may use disposable brushes instead. If you can't get your hands on actual disposable brushes and sponges then cotton sticks and buds can work instead.  Water containers If you are lucky, you might find a decent water container in the craft section. It may not be as good as a face painting one though.  Costume accessories You should be able to find some cute bows or accessories to make you stand out as a face painter.  Headband Plastic easy to wash headbands are the best for keeping hair out of childrens faces as you face paint them.  Bonus Note. Dont ever buy glitter from a cheap shop. It will absolutely be craft glitter which is not safe on skin and not for cosmetic use. Always use a face paint retailer that can guarentee glitter is cosmetic only!
